Why Genoa is the Perfect City for a Late-Season Calcio Trip
By Dan Cancian
With the end of the season rapidly approaching across Serie A and Serie B time is running out to book a last-minute calcio weekender.
Luckily, Genoa offers several options for those wanting to scratch the itch before the whistle blows on 2025-26, as the Rossoblu and Sampdoria both play at home between now and May 17.
Better still, if you plan your trip properly you can watch Virtus Entella too. They are just down the coast and have it all to play for.
We’ve looked at the fixtures and flights to find the value. London Stansted is the best bet for a direct flight from the UK to Genoa while Turin and Milan (Malpensa and Linate) are under two hours away by train.

Virtus Entella vs Padova, Saturday April 25, 3pm
A late April Saturday by the Ligurian Sea sounds tantalising enough on its own, even more so when you throw in a potentially season-defining Serie B clash. Virtus Entella are in the relegation play-off spots, with Padova just three places better off.
Chiavari is approximately a 45-minute train ride away from Genoa and with kick-off at 3pm local time it could be a bit of a dash flying out on the day of the game, especially as April 25 is a holiday in Italy, but it is doable.
Ryanair flies out of Stansted at 8am, arriving into Genoa at 11am, and if you fly back at 11pm the following night the return trip starts at £52. The same flight out but returning at 2:45pm on the Sunday starts at £124.
A pleasant little town of 30,000 inhabitants, Chiavari is one of the main hubs of the Gulf of Tigullio, which is part of the Levante Riviera and stretches over the Ligurian Sea from the plush resort of Portofino in the west to Sestri Levante to the east.
Tickets for their matches are available on Entella’s website or at the gates on matchday.
Genoa vs Como, Sunday April 26, 3pm
After a Serie B fix, you can get yourself to the Marassi the following day when the Rossoblu welcome Champions League-chasing Como. The 3pm kick-off leaves enough time to get that late flight back on the Sunday night.
Tickets are available through Genoa’s official website starting from €26.50. They regularly pull in more than 30,000 – close to capacity – but it is possible to get tickets for most matches. All the information you need can be found in our article on buying tickets and our stadium guide.
Sampdoria vs Sudtirol, Friday May 1, 3pm
Sampdoria’s last home game of the season could have a lot riding on it after they pulled themselves clear of trouble but not quite far enough to start celebrating just yet.
Sudtirol have been punching above their weight – until the weekend 6-1 hammering at Spezia – and looked comfortable hovering around the middle of the second tier. You can fly into Genoa from Stansted at 6:45am on the morning of the game and back at 11:30am the following day for £92 return.
Tickets are available through Sampdoria’s official website starting from €26.5 (£23). All the information you need can be found in our article on buying tickets and our stadium guide.
Virtus Entella vs Carrarese, Friday May 8, 8:30pm
This one could be see hosts fighting for their lives and the visitors trying to nail down a play-off place. With the late kick-off you can fly out on the day and back the following morning from Stansted with Ryanair for £39.
Tickets are available on Entella’s website or at the gates on matchday.

Genoa vs AC Milan, Sunday May 17, KO TBC
Genoa’s final home game of the season comes on the penultimate weekend of the Serie A campaign, with calcio royalty AC Milan due at the Marassi.
The kick-off times for round 37 will not be announced until closer to the time, so bear that in mind when booking flights, especially if flying into somewhere other than Genoa and taking the train.
There is a Stansted-Genoa flight at 8am on the Saturday coming back at 11:20am on the Monday for £65.
Tickets are available through Genoa’s official website starting from €26.50 but keep a close eye for when they go on sale as they will be in demand. All the information you need can be found in our article on buying tickets and our stadium guide.
