Sassuolo and Reggiana Stadium Guide: Mapei Stadium

The Mapei Stadium – Stadio Citta’ del Tricolore sits on the northern edge of Reggio Emilia and is home to Reggiana and Sassuolo.

The Granata moved in when the stadium opened in 1995 as the Stadio Giglio, replacing the Stadio Mirabello, before Sassuolo owner Giorgio Squinzi bought it in 2013 after Reggiana entered financial difficulties.

He renamed it the Mapei Stadium and the Neroverdi have called it home ever since while the Granata are tenants in the ground they used to own. This is why Reggiana fans do not recognise the name and still call it Citta’ del Tricolore.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of your visit.

What Makes It Special?

The Mapei is among Italy’s more up-to-date venues and has already undergone significant modernisation since opening, with new floodlights added in 2023 and a new turf laid in 2025.

But, there’s more. Not only is there a moat to prevent pitch invasions but the water comes from a local river, and fans have been seen fishing in it. There cannot be many grounds where fishing and football go hand in hand.

How To Get There

The Mapei Stadium is well served by local trains, with the Reggio Stadio station directly across from the ground. Services from Reggio Emilia’s main station stop here, while a bus ride from Reggio’s central station takes 30 minutes. If driving, the stadium has plenty of parking options, which you can find on the map on the club’s website.

Neighbourhood Tips

Reggio Emilia is a small city and almost everything is within walking distance, with the Mapei Stadium a 40-minute stroll from the old town. For pre-match drinks, try one of the craft-beer offerings such as Bottiglieria San Giovanni and Le Mille e Una Birra in the centre of town.

Need To Know

Unlike the San Siro, where Inter and AC Milan ultras take opposite ends of the stadium, Reggiana and Sassuolo ultras take the Curva Sud at the Mapei. Away fans are in the Curva Nord while the premium seats are in the Tribuna Ovest, the largest stand in the ground.

Tickets

Booths for collecting and buying tickets open 90 minutes before kick-off.
