Frosinone Stadium Guide: Stadio Benito Stirpe
By Emmet Gates
The Stadio Benito Stirpe is one of Italy’s newest grounds. Built in the 2010s but originally started in the 1980s, the structure is a boxy, English-style stadium that’s thankfully without a running track.
The idea for a new ground was conceived as far back as the mid 1970s. Frosinone’s old Stadio Comunale Matusa was deemed unfit for purpose due to its location in the city. Situated on the south of town, there were parking and security issues, and therefore the need for a bigger stadium in a less populated part of the city was recommended.
The new stadium was started but ran aground after money issues plagued the project. It wasn’t until the early 2010s that the wheels began to turn again and funding was allocated. Some €20m was set aside to finally deliver the stadium, and so work was carried out over two years in order to get it completed.
Named after Benito Stirpe, the father of current club owner Maurizio Stirpe, the arena is now one of the most modern in the country, complete was all the facilities one can expect from a new ground.
The 16,000-seater stadium is also owned by Frosinone, meaning they are one of the handful of clubs in Italy to have full control over their ground.
Here’s everything you need to know.

What Makes It Special?
The ground is the newest in Italy that was built from scratch, with the construction happening between 2015 and 2017. Relatively small but very lively.
How To Get There
The stadium isn’t the most easily accessible by foot but you can walk from the station in about half an hour or make a short trip in a taxi.
Your best bet is to take a bus from Piazza Sandro Pertini near the train station.

Neighbourhood Tips
If you want a pre-game drink or food head to Osteria del Leone, a two-minute walk from the ground. They also do burgers, chips, sandwiches and pizzas.
Need To Know
Frosinone’s ultras sit in the Curva Nord. As you would expect from a modern arena, every section of the stadium is covered from the elements, and there isn’t a bad view in the house.
Tickets
Tickets for Frosinone games can be bought via the club’s authorised seller, Vivaticket.
