Carrarese Stadium Guide: Stadio dei Marmi

The Stadio dei Marmi is one of the smallest grounds in the top tiers of the Italian football pyramid with capacity just a shade over 4000.

Home to Carrarese, once owned by the legendary Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, it is one of the more picturesque grounds in the league, with the marble-stained mountains towering behind the stadium. 

Work has been underway to lift the capacity of the ground to meet minimum Serie B standards, which stands at 5,500. A new North Sntraltand was built to the tune of €1.5m and was completed at the end of 2025. More renovations will be made in the coming years to transform the ground into a true stadium, with investments totalling €5m coming from local marble tycoons. 

Located in a quiet residential area of Carrara, at one time it held close to 10,000 spectators and contained the obligatory running track. Over time the capacity reduced and the athletics track was abandoned and allowed to decay.

Yet even in its current state, the Stadio dei Marmi is an atmospheric little ground and, while Carrara isn’t known as a footballing hotbed, Carrarese will look to continue proving the bigger sides in Serie B wrong and surviving in the division.

What Makes It Special?

Undoubtedly the scenery. From the central grandstand, you can get a majestic view of the marble quarries in the background as the game plays in front of you.

How To Get There

Given the relatively small size of Carrara, reaching the stadium is an easy 10-minute wander from the centre.

Or you can take a bus from Carrara’s train station in the direction of Carrara Ospedale (hospital) for six stops, then make the short walk to the ground.

For a bit to eat before the match, make your way to Pizzeria La Casetta Magica. Less than a minute’s walk to the ground, the pizzeria offers magnificent value for money and has a wealth of options to choose from.

For a pre-game tipple or a coffee, look no further than Bar Roberto on Via Trieste. A low-key place, the staff are friendly and there’s a great atmosphere as fans pop in before making their way to the stadium.

Need To Know

Carrarese’s ultras sit (or mostly stand) in the Curva Nord, while away fans congregate at the opposite end. If you want the best view of the marble quarries, we recommend the Grandstand.
