There is a spot in the centre of Modena that holds historical significance for those of a football persuasion.
On the corner of Corso Duomo hangs a plaque dedicated to Panini – the company made famous for, among other things, their monopoly of World Cup sticker albums over the past 50 years.
It is the spot of the founding family’s first ever news kiosk before their operation ballooned into a household name. Today, a different kind of collection has taken its place.

If you’ve got, got, need a refreshment, L’Archivio is a stylish wine bar which boasts a vast array of bottles from across Italy and France. But it is as much its cocktails that convince locals to while away their evenings in the shadow of the city’s imposing Duomo.
The list is extensive but not exhaustive, with mixologists happy to go off-menu for requests ensuring rounds rarely come with a doubler.
A food menu including tapas and charcuterie boards makes L’Archivio a popular aperitivo destination, with its doors opening at 6pm.
Cocktails start at €7 and while not the cheapest spot in the city, it is the location, which is excellent for people-watching, that make it a popular place.
Destination Calcio spotted Inter Milan loanee Yanis Massolin on a late-evening stroll through Piazza Duomo, still in his tracksuit fresh from Modena’s 2-1 derby victory over Reggiana.
Spend an hour or two here and you could collect your own football sightings.
