Vicenza Stadium Guide: Stadio Romeo Menti

The Stadio Romeo Menti in Vicenza is something of an exception in the calcio landscape. Opened in 1935, Vicenza’s home ground is one of the few in Italy to be designed along the classic English style, without the running track.

It was named after Vicenza-born winger Romeo Menti, who died in the Superga disaster that wiped out the legendary Grande Torino team in 1949. Juve Stabia’s home also bears Menti’s name.

The stadium, which was badly damaged during World War II, holds just a shade north of 13,000 fans – a long way away from the record 31,000 that packed in to watch Vicenza take on Juventus in 1978 – but it remains one of the most picturesque in Italy and will be hosting Serie B football again from the 2026-27 kick-off.

Here is all you need to know.

What Makes It Special?

Its location and atmosphere. Having a stadium so close to the centre of town is something of a rarity in Italy and the Menti offers the perfect opportunity to have a drink in a lovely piazza, before a short stroll to the ground. Not something to take for granted.

Once inside, the atmosphere is among the best in Italy outside of Serie A. The Menti is compact, with the stands right on top of the pitch, while the Curva Sud is loud and regularly decked in white and red.

Expect an atmosphere for the ages next season in games against Padova as there’s no love lost between the Venetian rivals.

How To Get There

Sitting in the Borgo Casale-Stadio neighbourhood on the left bank of the River Bacchiglione, the Menti is close to the centre. Vicenza’s main train station is a 20-minute walk away, while the central Piazza dei Signori is a 15-minute stroll away.

A bus ride to the ground takes around 10 minutes from either with routes 1, 2, 4, 5 and 10 connecting the ground with the station and the city centre.

Neighbourhood Tips

Located directly across from the stadium’s main gates on Via Schio, Bar Stadio is a must-visit on matchday. The walls are a mosaic of vintage team photos, scarves, and faded newspaper clippings. This is the physical and spiritual home of the fans. Make sure to order a Spritz Vicentino or a Bianchetto – a small glass of local sparkling white wine – and join the crowds that mingle outside from long before kick-off.

A few steps down the road is Il Baretto, a place that feels grittier than Bar Stadio and serves as the meeting point for plenty of Vicenza ultras.

If you fancy something slightly quieter head over to Al Bacaro Da Gerard in Corso Padova, a classic Venetian bar that offers a good selection of wines and the local cicchetti – small Venetian tapas.

Like most other grounds in Italy, the Menti has a plethora of food trucks, so stop for a panino and pint just outside the Curva Sud.

Need To Know

The liveliest section of the stadium is the Curva Sud – home of the ultras. The Biancorossi are twinned with Reggiana, Cremonese and Pescara.

Tickets

The ticket collection booths are located just outside the main stand.
