Union Brescia Stadium Guide: Stadio Mario Rigamonti

By Emmet Gates

Union Brescia play at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti and have done since it was opened in 1959. Named in honour of the defender who was born in Brescia and was part of the Grande Torino side killed at Superga in May 1949, the stadium is locally referred to as the Rigamonti.

Here is everything you need to know

What Makes It Special?

The Rigamonti is oval-shaped rather than following the regular circular or square designs found throughout the rest of the country. However, with renovations over the past 15 years, the shape of the stadium is slowly transforming into a more rectangular structure.

With Brescia’s ultra groups divided (more on that below), the atmosphere inside the Rigamonti is boisterous in more sections of the ground than at other clubs, where most of the noise tends to emanate from a single stand. This makes a trip to the stadium all the more interesting.

How To Get There

The easiest way to reach the Rigamonti is by metro. From Vittoria in the town centre, take the line to Mompiano. From there, the stadium is just a few minutes’ walk away.

To get to the stadium from the train station, take the metro or a bus towards Lumezzane Paolo VI and get off at Via Triumplina.

Neighbourhood Tips

The Rigamonti is in a residential area in the north of the city. A good spot for pre-game pizza is Pizzeria Ristorante Da Ciro on Via Cacciadenno, a few minutes walk from the ground.

Bierhaus is a German beerhall on Via Triumplina that offers a varied selection of beers, along with Italian and German cuisine.

Bar Imperial on Via Famiglia Boccacci is worth checking out for beer, coffee or pastries, while Bar Garda on Via Bligny is ideal for a spritz pre-or-post-game, with nibbles.

Need To Know

Brescia’s ultras, made up of several groups that united in 2011, mainly occupy the Curva Nord. However, a group called Brescia 1911 did not join the others and remained independent. They can be found in the Gradinata Bassa (lower main stand).

In August 2013 the Curva Nord was renamed in honour of Andrea Toninelli, a Brescia fan who died on his way home from an away game against Livorno during the Serie B play-offs that year.

Tickets

Tickets for Brescia games can be bought through the club’s official ticket seller, Vivaticket, in the days leading up to kick-off.
