Serie B LIVE and FREE… How to Watch Matchday 6

By Dan Cancian

Palermo’s trip to Empoli headlines the latest triple-header of Serie B fixtures live on Destination Calcio TV as the league leaders take centre stage again now that the international break is in the rearview mirror.

Holding a two-point margin over Sudtirol and Mantova, the Sicilians travel to Tuscany on Saturday afternoon as Matteo Andreoletti begins his adventure in charge of the Azzurri after replacing Guido Pagliuca.

The DCTV cameras will also be in Avellino on Friday night, where Sampdoria will be hoping to build some momentum after picking up their first win of the season last time out.

On Saturday evening, we’re back up in Modena, where the high-flying Canaries welcome Verona.

DCTV will broadcast three matches, live and free, during every round of fixtures.

Here’s what to expect from the sixth weekend of the season (all kick-off times BST).

Avellino vs Sampdoria (Friday, October 9 – 7:30pm)

Contrasting moods accompanied Avellino and Sampdoria into the international break. The Irpini’s fast start ground to a halt in Ascoli, where they squandered a first-half lead to lose 3-1 against the Serie B newcomers, just a week after they had to settle for a point against Palermo, despite scoring first.

Had Avellino managed to hold on to the lead in both games, they would have headed into the break level on points with table-topping Palermo. Instead, Alessandro Nesta’s men find themselves six points adrift in seventh place, still in the thick of the play-off race but level on points with five teams and in need of a return to winning ways.

Which is exactly what Sampdoria did three weeks ago, when they came back from a goal down and a man down to beat Catanzaro at home to end a three-game losing streak.

The Blucerchiati remain 17th in the table and confidence is fragile at best, but a win at the Stadio Partenio would go a long way towards strengthening belief that Bernardo Corradi deserves more time.

Empoli vs Palermo (Saturday, October 10 – 2pm)

It was all change at Empoli during the international break, as Pagliuca’s second spell in charge ended even more swiftly and disastrously than the first.

Pagliuca left after nine games last season, only to be rehired in the summer, but lasted only six matches this term, departing on the back of defeats by Arezzo and Modena with the team sitting in 12th place.

Former Padova manager Andreoletti is the new man in the dugout and his first assignment could not be harder. Palermo are finally living up to their perennial label of promotion favourites, but Filippo Inzaghi will be well aware their fast start last season slowed down in October.

With a trip to Mantova coming up next week, the Sicilians cannot afford any missteps in Tuscany.

Modena vs Hellas Verona (Saturday, October 10 – 6:30pm)

Just when a home defeat by Avellino looked to have burst the bubble of excitement surrounding Modena’s start to the season, the Canaries took flight again in time to head into the international break with a spring in their step.

Giuseppe Ambrosino’s late goal rescued a point at Sudtirol, before he struck again a week later to complete a turnaround win over Empoli and lift Modena up to fourth in the table, three points behind Palermo.

Three points further adrift, Verona still have the feel of a team searching for their identity. Relegated from Serie A last term, they have struggled to click and Marco Baroni’s second spell at the Stadio Bentegodi may well have ended if they had lost to Vicenza before the international break.

Instead, a late Gabriel Mosquera double secured bragging rights in the first Veneto derby in a decade and kept Baroni in situ. Sixth in the table, three points behind their opponents on Saturday, Verona need to find some consistency.
