Cesena Stadium Guide: Orogel Stadium Dino Manuzzi

One of the oldest grounds in Serie B, Cesena’s Orogel Stadium – Dino Manuzzi has succeeded where many others have failed, in blending tradition with modernity.

Home to the Seahorses since 1957, the Manuzzi wears its years far better than some newer grounds across the peninsula, and from a purely visual standpoint, its facilities make it one of the best places in Italy to watch football.

What Makes It Special?

The design. One of several English-style grounds that are becoming increasingly popular across Italy, the Manuzzi consisted of just two terraces until 1973, when it underwent significant expansion following the Seahorses’ promotion to Serie A. Capacity was raised above 35,000.

In 1982, the stadium was renamed after the man who served as Cesena president for 16 years, shortly after his death. 

By the end of the decade, the Manuzzi received a near-complete overhaul, as the East Stand and the two traditional Curvas were demolished and rebuilt as a U-shaped single structure around the perimeter of the pitch.

Corner seating was added as part of the revamp, resulting in a stadium in which the fans are much closer to the action. The result is one of the most modern grounds in Serie B, which offers a great view from each of the four stands.

How To Get There

The stadium is approximately a mile east of Cesena’s old town and the main train station in the Fiorenzuola neighbourhood. It can be easily reached on foot from both in around 25 minutes. 

The 3, 94, 95 and 148 bus routes all connect Cesena’s train station with the stadium, which is around a 10-minute walk from the last stop. The 4 bus route, meanwhile, connects the Manuzzi with the old town.

As in other major Italian cities, you can tap your card when boarding public transport in Cesena, instead of buying a ticket. However, you do need a card, as your smartphone or smartwatch may not be accepted.

Neighbourhood Tips

Food and drink options are plentiful around the Manuzzi. Located right behind the ground, the Bombonera Pub is a fans’ favourite, with beers in plastic cups, walls covered in football stickers and fans spilling out onto the pavement with drinks in hand.

If you fancy something to eat, look no further than Piadina 5 Stelle, which is just across from the pub and specialises in Romagna’s signature dish. Grab a piadina and soak up the atmosphere before heading into the ground.
