ARLI Hotel Offers Solid Value When Looking for a Place to Stay in Bergamo

Set between the transport hub and the historic hilltop, ARLI Hotel is one of those quietly practical stays that exceed expectations. It sits just off the main stretch of Viale Papa Giovanni XXIII (the road that links Bergamo’s train and bus station with the foot of the Città Alta), positioned about halfway along on Largo Porta Nuova. For anyone arriving by public transport or planning to explore on foot, that location does most of the heavy lifting.

This part of Bergamo has a steady flow of commuters in the morning, café tables filling up by mid-afternoon, and visitors ambling uphill towards the old town. The ARLI fits neatly into that flow. It’s not flashy from the outside, and inside the decor leans more functional than design-led, but it’s clean, well-kept and comfortable – which, from roughly £100 per room per night in spring, feels like solid value.

Facilities are another quiet win. Many hotels in Bergamo don’t offer much beyond the basics, but ARLI includes a small gym (downstairs and free to use) and a spa set-up that’s worth mentioning. The spa operates on a booking system and is €45 per person for a two-hour slot, but the key detail is that it’s private for the duration. Sauna, steam room, showers, cold plunge and even an ice bucket are all there. And having the space to yourself makes it feel more premium than the price suggests.

Where the hotel pulls ahead slightly is in the details. Staff are consistently friendly and attentive without overdoing it. Breakfast is a strong point: a continental spread with enough variety to cover most tastes, plus proper coffee made to order rather than left sitting in a machine. It’s a simple touch, but one that makes a difference if you’re heading out early to explore or catch a train.

Rooms themselves won’t linger long in the memory. They’re straightforward: neutral decor, functional layout, nothing particularly stylish. But they’re clean, quiet enough, and do the job without fuss – which, for a city break, is often exactly what you need.

Bergamo has its share of boutique options and hillside charm, but if you’re planning to balance sightseeing with practicality – perhaps catching an Atalanta match at the New Balance Arena – ARLI makes a convincing case. It’s not trying to be a destination hotel. Instead, it gets the fundamentals right, adds a couple of thoughtful extras, and leaves you with the sense you’ve spent your money well.
