Virtus Entella: Stadio Enrico Sannazzari

Most people with only a passing interest in the Italian game probably will not have heard of Virtus Entella.

This is understandable considering they have only featured in Serie B six times in their 111-year history.

After a four-year absence, however, the Ligurian side are now back in the second tier, and they will make for an intriguing element in next season’s campaign.

Located 40 kilometres east of Genoa, they gained entry back into the second tier by winning their group in Serie C. Managed by Fabio Gallo, the Biancocelesti finished ahead of Ternana by nine points.

Entella play at the tiny, but homely, Stadio Enrico Sannazzari, named after the founder of the club who emigrated to Argentina and later returned to start the team alongside Pippo Lanata in the 1910s.

The stadium, which mistakenly is called the Stadio Aldo Gastaldi owing to the street in which it is located, is also known as the Stadio Comunale.

With a capacity of just over 5,000, it will be one of the most compact and arduous grounds for away teams.
