Avellino Stadium Guide: Stadio Partenio-Adriano Lombardi

Which stadium was selected along with the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara as reserve venue for the Italia 90 World Cup? And which stadium hosted the second leg of the 1990 UEFA Cup final, which should have been staged in Florence?

The answer to both questions is the Stadio Partenio-Adriano Lombardi in Avellino. With work underway at the Artemio Franchi ahead of Italia 90, Fiorentina had to play their European home games in Perugia, but following crowd trouble in the semi-final, the second leg of the final against Juventus was moved to Avellino.

It was the high watermark for the ground, which was not required for the World Cup just months later, and hasn’t hosted Serie A football since the 1987-88 season.

Built in 1970 during the Irpini’s golden era, the stadium takes its name from the Partenio mountain range that surrounds the city and was subsequently renamed Adriano Lombardi in memory of the former Avellino captain, who died in 2007.

One of the newest stadiums in Serie B, the Partenio is also the third-biggest in Campania and one of the most raucous in Italy.

Here is all you need to know.

Avellino have one of the most passionate fanbases in Serie B and the Partenio averages over 9,500 fans through the gates this season

What Makes It Special?

The atmosphere. The days of Avellino boasting the likes of Brazil internationals Juary and Dirceu in Serie A may be long gone, but the Irpini are a loyal bunch.

Not even going bankrupt twice and tumbling all the way down to Serie D over the past two decades has cooled the support in Avellino. They averaged 9500 fans through the gates in 2025-26.

With an unmistakably 1970s-style curva completely decked in green and white, the Partenio is a sight to behold when it’s bouncing.

How To Get There

Sitting in the eponymous neighbourhood north of the centro storico, the Partenio is a 20-minute walk from the central Piazza della Liberta.

A bus ride to the ground from the main station takes around 50 minutes and also involves a bit of a walk but a cab ride should take no longer than 10 minutes.

Neighbourhood Tips

Located a stone’s throw away from the Partenio, the Old Style Pub is arguably the most convenient spot for a drink before kick-off. It is hugely popular among Avellino fans.

A short walk from the stadium area on Viale Italia, Tuke caters to families looking for a pre-match meal and fans just opting for a couple of drinks before the game.

Slightly further away, about a 10-minute walk from the ground, La Fornarina is a great option for takeaways pizzas and a quick beer before kick-off or at full-time.

Need To Know

The liveliest section of the stadium is the Curva Sud – home of the Avellino ultras. Since 2018 the Irpini have been twinned with Dutch club ADO Den Haag and their third kit in the 2020-21 season featured a yellow and black colour scheme in homage to the Eredivisie side.

Tickets

The ticket collection booths are located just outside the main stand.
