The Giuseppe Meazza, or San Siro as it’s most commonly known, is one of football’s grandest cathedrals. Despite being a little rough around the edges, it still remains an awesome sight to first-time visitors, with its spiral columns and red girders rising high into the Milanese sky.

San Siro is adored by the football public and is routinely listed as a bucket list destination for football fans around the world, yet both Milan sides want to leave the fabled arena

However, getting approval for plans to build new stadiums in various parts of the city is proving to be an arduous task. Red tape is stifling any development and it remains to be seen if either Milan or Inter will be able to erect a new stadium in the next several years.

The stadium has been home to many of the finest players to ever play the game, and is named so after legendary Italian striker Giuseppe Meazza, who scored some 251 goals playing for both teams in a career that spanned two decades.

Italy’s most-iconic stadium is located in the north-west of the city, and is one of the country’s most accessible arenas to reach.

What may happen to the much-loved stadium should both Inter and Milan eventually leave is unknown.

The stadium cannot be demolished due to it now being considered a national monument, but for the moment it’s still to be celebrated as a must-visit for football fans the world over.
