Located around 30km southeast off Naples, the city of Castellammare di Stabia has a football team with one of the most unique-sounding names in the Italian game: Juve Stabia
Formed in 1907 and then called Stabia Sporting Club, however, they went bankrupt in 1953, and so the second team in the city, called Juve Stabia, took over as the main club of the city and assumed the sporting tradition of the previous club.
Juve Stabia has primarily spent much of its existence playing in the lower tiers of the Italian game, bouncing between Serie B, C1 and C2. They’re now back in Serie B for the first time in four years after winning promotion under boss Guido Pagliuca.
The club play at the Stadio Romeo Menti, named in honour of the Italian striker who tragically died in the Superga disaster in 1949.
