Genoa Release Boca Juniors-inspired Fourth Kit to Honour 120 Years of Argentinian Club Founded by ‘Xeneizes’

Genoa are releasing a fourth kit this season to celebrate their bond with Boca Juniors and mark the South Americans’ 120th anniversary.
Back in 1905 it was a group of five Genoese – Esteban Baglietto, Alfredo Scarpatti, Santiago Sana and brothers Teodoro and Juan Antonio Farenga – who founded the club in the La Boca neighbourhood of Buenos Aires.
Boca, with the likes of Juan Roman Riquelme, Carlos Tevez and Napoli legend Diego Maradona as former players, reach the milestone on April 3.
Seven thousand miles separate the teams but the relationship remains solid and Boca’s nickname is Xeneizes, which translates as ‘people from Genoa’.
The word ‘ZENEIXI”, the Genoese version of Xeneizes, is written on the back of the jersey, which was rather fittingly unveiled at the Museum of Italian Emigration in Genoa on Wednesday. Millions of Italians sailed to South America in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The shirt, by kit manufacturers Kappa, is predominantly dark blue with a yellow band around the middle in the distinctive style of the six-time Copa Libertadores champions (only their fellow Argentines Independiente have won more with seven).
Genoa, who are hovering around mid-table as the Serie A season heads into the final stretch, are set to give the jersey its debut when they head for Turin to take on Juventus this Saturday, March 29.
It is available to buy on the club’s official website and costs from €85 for an adult top and €49 for a child’s kit.
Earlier this season, wrestling superstar The Undertaker launched the Rossoblu’s third kit. The WWE icon posed in the strip, which is mainly black with a yellow trim, wearing a bandana.
The club said at the time: “The entertainment, music, artists and sports genre is enriched with the wrestling champion Undertaker. He is in the Olympus of ring legends in a beloved and transgenerational sport.”
That design was part of the ‘Golden Dark Side of Genoa’ campaign, which kicked off in 2023 with the help of Rita Ora. The singer, actress and reality television show judge was pictured in the gold top produced to celebrate the club’s 130th anniversary.
Having been named Serie B player of the month for February following his series of sparkling displays for table-topping Sassuolo, it was a fitting reward for hotshot Armand Lauriente. With14 goals and five assists in 27 appearances this season, after scoring in Sassuolo’s 5-1 win over Reggiana on Saturday, there’s no doubting what a key

In the lead up to the titanic clash with AC Milan, three Napoli heroes were honoured by the club they starred for back in the day.
