Derby Days Galore in Serie B With Promoted Sides Renewing Rivalries
The Serie B fixtures for the 2025-26 season have finally been released and Destination Calcio has focused in on the four sides making the jump from Serie C.
Here’s the important diary dates for Virtus Entella, Pescara, Avellino and Padova.
Virtus Entella vs Sampdoria: October 18
Virtus Entella vs Spezia: December 8
Virtus Entella have bounced around the lower leagues for most of the 111 years they have been around but they were in the second tier as recently as 2021 (you can read all about them here).

A tiny club in a region with giants like Genoa and Sampdoria, Virtus Entella and their fans will be relishing the visit of their Ligurian neighbours. The Aldo Gastaldi Stadium sits in the heart of Chiavari and holds fewer than 5,500 spectators. It is big enough to create an atmosphere and small enough so that visiting players will hear every heckle from the home team’s 200 ultras. Loud and clear.
This is a niche groundhopping experience just seconds from the sea and while cheaper than the likes of Genoa or Cinque Terre, those locations can be part of a fantastic multi-stop calcio trip in the Ligurian region.
Pescara vs Sampdoria: April 11
Pescara vs Sampdoria takes us back to a particular game in the 1992-93 Serie A season that saw Massimiliano Allegri equalise for Pescara two minutes after Roberto Mancini put Sampdoria into the lead. The score that day was 2-2.
Allow us to indulge in this 90s nostalgia when we think of these sides meeting again. Unfortunately the likes of Dunga and Enrico Chiesa won’t take the field as they did that day, but this match-up allows us a wry smile just thinking back.
What else are we to do considering how low both teams have been since? Fans will be hoping Pescara’s return to Serie B and Sampdoria’s miraculous play-off survival is the start of a better future for both clubs.
Juve Stabia vs Avellino: October 18
Avellino vs Juve Stabia: February 28
Avellino have returned to Serie B for the first time since 2018, and in doing so they have set up a tasty grudge match with Campania neighbours Juve Stabia. It may have gone under the radar but these two have had quite the head-to-head over recent seasons.

In 2024-25 Avellino beat Juve Stabia in the Coppa Italia, despite being a division below their regional rivals. It was revenge for what happened the year before when the pair competed in Girone C of Serie C. They faced each other three times that season, winning one game each and drawing the other.
But in the league it was a case of so near, yet so far. Juve Stabia finished top to earn promotion to Serie B. Ten points adrift, Avellino finished in second place, but they missed out on promotion in the play-offs.
A year later Avellino have also made the step up to the second division and this Campania rivalry can continue to entertain.
Padova vs Venezia: November 22
Venezia vs Padova: March 17
Last but not least, Padova return to Serie B for the first time since 2019, and guess what? They too have a regional derby awaiting them in the second division.
Less than 40km separates Padova and Venezia, who will meet for the first time since the 2018-19 Serie B campaign. Two seasons before that, in Serie C, both teams won the derby match away from home, and in the game held in Venezia the hosts had three players sent off. An entertaining couple of fixtures could be on the cards.
Venezia finished 19th in Serie A last year while Padova came top of their Serie C table, losing just four games and conceding only 24 goals during the 38-game season. These local rivals are coming from different divisions but expect their head-to-heads to be close encounters.
Don’t forget, Destination Calcio will be bringing you live Serie B action during every round of the 2025-26 on DCTV.
