Como and Adidas Salute Club Legends In Latest Fashion Team Up

Como and Adidas have come together to launch a fashion range paying homage to two of the club’s greatest ever players.

The Serie A side turned heads earlier this season with a limited release of their original sneakers team-up with the iconic sports brand – a collection that sold out in a matter of hours last month.

And now the pair have linked up once more to produce the Como 1907 x adidas Legends Collection – a range dedicated to two Italian greats; Gigi Meroni and Stefano Borgonovo.

Meroni, whose dribbling and flare set him apart in a defensive-minded era in Italian football, started his career in Como’s youth academy. He worked his way into the first team before moving on to Genoa and Torino.

The winger was heralded as one of Italy’s most exciting forces, before his life was tragically cut short by a road accident at the age of just 24. The site of his death in Turin is marked by a plinth and Como officials paid their respects to their former star before the clash with Torino in October.

Stefano Borgonovo was a forward who reached great heights with Milan – lifting the European Cup in 1990 and featuring for the Italian national team. However, it was on the banks of Lake Como that he honed his ability.

Borgonovo came through the club’s youth ranks and spent seven years with the first team between 1981 and 1988.

He was also renowned for his work after life on the pitch, as he battled motor neurone disease (MND) and set up his own foundation for research into the illness.

The Fondazione Stefano Borgonovo continued to raise awareness and funds for research right up until his death in 2013.

While these two legends made their mark away from I Lariani, their roots at the club set them on the right path, and those are celebrated in the new collection.

Current stars, including Brazilian winger Gabriel Strefezza, helped launch the range, which is available now on Como’s official website.

Items up for grab include pairs of trainers depicting both stars, which are available for €125, while a bespoke Borgonovo jacket (€65) and T shirts with images of the Como icons (€35) are also up for grabs.
