The Stadio Giovanni Zini is just north of Cremona’s old town and has been the home of Cremonese since it opened in 1919.

Named in honour of Giovanni Zini, a goalkeeper who died in World War I, the stadium is one of the smallest but most atmospheric in Italy.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of your visit.

What Makes It Special?

It is one of the oldest stadiums yet remains surprisingly functional courtesy of a series of renovations. The stadium has a compact feel with the four sectors close to the action, which means there is nowhere with a bad view of the pitch.

We were there last year, with the ultras behind the goal for a 0-0 draw with Parma, and while on this occasion the game was not the best, the atmosphere in the 15,000-capacity stadium was incredible.

How To Get There

Cremona’s main train station is a 20-minute walk from the Stadio Zini while the old town is just 15 minutes on foot.

Neighbourhood Tips

Cremona is a small city so almost everything you need is within walking distance. For pre-match atmosphere and a place to grab a drink, look no further than Bar Vigno. A stone’s throw from the Stadio Zini, the bar is a meeting point for supporters, offering beers – from €5 a pint – and wines, along with bottles of Campari soda, the tipple of choice for fans in Italy.

Need To Know

The Curva Sud is home to the most vocal supporters and is behind the goal on the southern side. Away fans are housed in the Curva Nord behind the opposite goal. The premium seats are in the Tribuna Centrale, the largest stand, while the Distinti Gianluca Vialli runs the length of the pitch on the opposite side.

Tickets

The ticket collection booths are on the southern end of the ground, to the left of the Curva Sud gates as you approach the stadium from Piazza Domenico Luzzara.
