Como Directors Give Their Champions League Tickets Away to Fans

Como president Mirwan Suwarso and club directors are giving up their tickets for their Champions League debut so that more fans will be able to watch the biggest match in their team’s history.

The Lariani step onto Europe’s grandest stage for the first time on Thursday night, against RB Leipzig, and club executives want as many of their long-term supporters as possible to be there.

With capacity at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia around 11,000, tickets for the game sold out in minutes.

President Suwarso was first to announce that he would give away his allocation, and more Como executives followed, meaning there will be around 40 more tickets available to supporters who have been with the team over many years.

He said: “The stadium is sold out. With the reduced capacity and the limited number of tickets available, unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone who would have liked to be there.

“However, some of the club’s directors and I have decided to give up our seats for this match. We want them to go to the supporters who have waited the longest: fans born in 1950 or earlier, who have followed Como through every division and every era.

“If you know a long-standing Como supporter, born in 1950 or earlier, who deserves to be at the stadium on Thursday, please write to us at community@comofootball.com. We would be honoured to give them our seat.”

It has been a long road through the divisions for the club – Como were in Serie D as recently as 2019. They faced a race through the summer to get the Sinigaglia up to UEFA standards, replacing the Curva Como and playing their first three league games of this season away from home.

After Leipzig, English Premier League giants Manchester United, Greek side AEK Athens and European champions Paris Saint-Germain will arrive on the shores of the lake. Cesc Fabregas will take his side back to his former club Barcelona and will also face Feyenoord, Lens and Real Betis on the road.
