Where to Stay in Naples… Two Hotels With Stunning Bay Views
By Emmet Gates
Naples has been exploding in popularity over the last few years with millions of tourists descending on the city of pizza, baba and, of course, the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Staying right in the heart of the city, while close to everything, can feel chaotic given the intensity of everyday Neapolitan life and and this influx of visitors.
A good base is the Posillipo area. Once the home of Maradona, and Oscar Wilde, Posillipo is Naples’ most affluent area. Located along the western end of the Bay of Naples and perched on cliffs, it’s the oasis in the sky above the chaos of the city below.
From Posillipo you get a perfect view of the Mediterranean, making it an ideal location to relax after a day of sight-seeing. There is an abundance of AirBnb options available at varying prices dependant on your budget.
If it’s a hotel you’re after, again, there are plenty of options.
BW Signature Hotel Posillipo has four stars and 72 rooms, sits on Posillipo Hill that overlooks the bay and has Mount Vesuvius looming in the background. For a fantastic vista over Naples it’s hard to beat.

The hotel’s stunning restaurant – Paradisoblanco – is in a magnificent setting, with the view following the line of the coast enabling you to see Castel dell’Ovo. A double room with a partial view over the bay is around €135 per night.
If opulence is your thing, then look no further than the near 150-year-old Hotel Vesuvio. A five-star hotel right on the sea front looking out towards the bay, the Vesuvio has been frequented by some famous faces.
Classic Hollywood stars such as Alfred Hitchcock, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Clark Gable stayed in the hotel down the years, while more recently, Spike Lee, Harvey Keitel and Tim Robbins have popped in.
A sprawling 160 rooms make up the Vesuvio, with 21 suites and two panoramic restaurants. The sky lounge on the 10th floor is ideal for sipping a cocktail or glass of wine and enjoying the view.
A double room with a sea view starts at €595 per night while a classic queen room will set you back €465.
