Gianluigi Buffon, a native of Carrara, previously owned a majority share in the club, having bought shares in 2010 with former Livorno striker Cristiano Lucarelli.
Buffon eventually sold his shares in the club in 2015 and the club declared bankruptcy not long after.

Carrarese last played in Italy’s second division some 76 years ago, and have spent most of their time as a club bouncing between Serie C1 and C2. The club has the distinction of having one of the best stadium names in the Italian game, with the Stadio dei Marmi (Stadium of Marble) a nod to the region’s quarries.

In 2024, the club had to play some games away from their stadium, with several of their ‘home’ matches taking place at Pisa’s Stadio Arena Garibaldi-Romeo as Carrarese needed to renovate the Marmi in order to meet Serie B regulations.
The 1-1 draw with Mantova on matchday nine of 2024-25 was their first official home game since 1948.
Destination Calcio was present for the Serie B six-pointer between Carrarese and Cittadella on match day 10 to take in the spectacular views of the Tuscan Alps which framed an epic game, a 3-0 win for the home side.
