Located in the southern suburb of Benevento in Campania, the Stadio Ciro Vigorito has seen its capacity fluctuate, much like the club’s fortunes.
Opened in 1979 as Stadio Santa Colomba, the ground took on the current name after long time Benevento executive Ciro Vigorito died in 2010.
It initially held up to 25,000, but capacity was reduced to just over 18,000 and then to as low as 7,000 because of security concerns in 2006, when the Curva Nord was completely shut.
Following Bevenento’s historic back-to-back promotions to Serie B in 2016 and to Serie A the following season, the stadium underwent extensive renovation and capacity was again increased to just under 15,000.
Benevento returned to Serie A in 2020, but were relegated back to Serie B the following season and slipped through the division’s trap door and into Serie C in 2023.
Today, the Vigorito remains Campania’s fourth-biggest stadium after the Diego Maradona in Naples, the Stadio Arechi in Salerno and Avellino’s Stadio Partenio.
