Lega Serie B has postponed the play-out matches between Salernitana and Frosinone, scheduled for May 19 and May 26, after the Federal Prosecutor’s Office concluded an investigation into alleged irregularities in the payments of salaries by Brescia.

The news was confirmed by Lega B President Paolo Bedin on Sunday, who issued the following statement on the Lega B website.

“Lega Serie B informs that, with the Communication from the Federal Prosecutor regarding the conclusion of the investigations against an associated club, it has issued and published the C.U. n. 211 of 18 May 2025, which provides for the postponement of the Play-Out matches of the 2024/2025 Serie BKT Championship, scheduled for 19 and 26 May 2025 as per the CC.UU. 202 of 10 May 2025 and 209 of 14 May 2025, the date to be determined.

“Having identified in the Communication the intention of the Federal Prosecutor to proceed on the violation of rules, which could have an impact on the final ranking of the current Championship and, as a result, on the scheduling of the Play-Out matches, the decision is motivated by the need to guarantee, as per statutory prerogative, the principles of fair competition of the Championship, as well as safeguard the organizational and programming needs of the Clubs.

“Following this determination, the Play-Out dates will be rescheduled.”

If Brescia are handed a four-point penalty it could offer a lifeline to Sampdoria, who were relegated after finishing 18th in the league. The points deduction would take Brescia below Salernitana and Sampdoria in the table.

Brescia would be relegated, along with Cosenza and Cittadella, while Sampdoria would be in the two-legged play-out with Salernitana. Frosinone, who were due to face Salernitana, would be safe.

Following the news, Brescia released a statement of their own. It read: “Following the press reports that emerged today and the notice of conclusion of the investigation received from the FIGC for alleged irregularities in payments, Brescia Calcio Spa announces that it will appeal to any sporting venue and, if necessary, extra-sporting venue, to protect its position believing that it has correctly fulfilled the federal deadlines and acted in accordance with state and sporting regulations.”

The Destination Calcio TV broadcast of Salernitana vs Frosinone, scheduled for May 19, is cancelled. An updated broadcast schedule will be announced upon further news from Lega Serie B.
